Bio: stepped in as everyday third baseman when Bill Mueller got injured during the 2004 regular season. Highly regarded as a top prospect, played a bench role in 2005, before moving into an everyday job in 2006. He was one of the few stable players in his first full season in the majors. Shows a lot of versatility, playing first base mostly, but has the ability to play third and even a little left field. Known as the "Greek God of Walks" in the novel Moneyball by Michael Lewis. Has a very patient eye, and makes every pitcher work.

Fantasy Outlook: I had him as a starter on my fantasy team that ended up winning first place. He will bring you a lot of walks and a lot of runs scored. Not much everywhere, though the fact that he can play the outfield as well as the corner infield spots makes him a valuable fantasy pickup at least for a bench spot. Probably start him as a backup at the beginning of the season, and if you're weak in the positions he can play, slot him in.
